Many people live with daily limitations in their range of motion, whether it’s a shoulder that restricts arm movement, a knee that doesn’t bend fully, or other joint and muscle limitations. At our practice, Karen offers specialized range of motion therapy designed to improve joint and muscle function, helping clients regain mobility and relieve discomfort.
Our range of motion therapy assesses and treats movement limitations through tailored exercises and supportive techniques, based on three key types of range of motion measurements:
Passive Range of Motion (PROM): This is for joints and muscles that cannot be moved on their own. In passive range of motion therapy, Karen gently moves and stretches the affected area without requiring active effort from the client. This approach helps maintain joint flexibility, prevents stiffness, and supports circulation in the surrounding tissues, which is especially beneficial for those recovering from surgery or experiencing severe mobility limitations.
Active-Assistive Range of Motion (AAROM): For clients who can move their joint but need assistance to do so safely, active-assistive therapy involves guiding the joint while still allowing the client some control over the movement. This approach is ideal for those recovering from injury, as it allows clients to begin using their muscles again without risking strain or further injury. With Karen’s gentle assistance, clients build strength and coordination in the affected area, gradually improving mobility and control.
Active Range of Motion (AROM): This type of therapy applies to clients who can move their joints independently without additional support. Karen provides guidance on exercises and techniques that promote further joint function, flexibility, and strength. Active range of motion therapy is essential for restoring full movement and helping clients prevent future injuries by strengthening and conditioning the muscles around the joint.
Karen’s range of motion therapy is highly personalized, ensuring clients receive the level of support they need for their specific condition. Each session is carefully adapted to help you regain functional movement safely, promoting long-term improvement in mobility, flexibility, and strength. By using a combination of these methods, Karen addresses each client’s unique limitations and goals, delivering customized care that brings lasting results.
Our ultimate goal is to help you get back to moving freely and comfortably. Through dedicated support and expert guidance, Karen ensures that your journey to restored range of motion is safe, effective, and empowering, allowing you to get back to the activities you enjoy.
